Things that affect your car insurance
What affects my car insurance quote?
There are lots of factors that will affect your car insurance quote. Some of them are things you can’t do anything about, but nevertheless knowing about them can help you understand whether you’re getting a good deal or not.
One of the most important questions for insurers is where you live, as this gives them an idea of how much at risk your car is. For example, if you live in an inner city, there’s probably a greater chance of your car getting stolen, and this will therefore mean a higher premium to insure your car. Also, if your car is parked on the street rather than on a driveway or garage, it will be at more risk again, and therefore will mean a higher premium.
Other key questions asked include details about you and your driving history. Statistically, younger drivers and male drivers are more likely to need to make a claim, and these groups will have to pay more to be insured. Also, if you have any previous motoring convictions or made any claims, these will count against you.
Finally, the type of car you want insured will obviously affect your premium. Large, desirable or sporty cars will cost more to insure as they are more expensive to fix or replace, as will any modifications made to the car.
The bottom line is that the more likely you are to make a claim, and the more expensive that claim might be will mean having to pay for a higher premium. Fortunately, there are ways in which you can reduce your insurance.
